Scrappy Buddies

Having spent a lot of time drawing my Friends characters, I decided I needed a change – not only to make some younger-looking kids, but also as a creative challenge to myself.  I’ll be the first to admit my OCD-tendencies, but this clipart journey has already got me believing I can do things I didn’t know I had in me.  All along I told Julie that I don’t really do “cute”, but with so many products now behind me, and me feeling more confident in my abilities, I …

Space Buddies

Continuing my Buddies series, I’ve just finished Buddies in Space!  I’ve always loved space – studying the planets and stars when I was (much) younger.  And yes, was even alive and somewhat remember when the Apollo space program went to the moon! So, as I’ve started working on this series of clipart, I thought it would be fun to do a set of space images.  I already have a planet / solar system set of clipart I put together a couple of months ago so now I have a …

Sketchy Bugs and Insects

I’ve been working on this product for a little while.  Every time I get a little tired of drawing people or some of the more intricate, realistic-looking pieces, I sketch out a bug or insect for a little break.  So this set was a lot of fun to do and is a little more creative than most of my other sets.  I played a lot with colors, different wing colors and crazy bug colors, but ended up with most of them being close to their actual colors as …

Animal Outlines

Based on the initial success of the people outlines, I started mapping out sets of animal outlines.  I knew there were a lot of animals to draw, so as I began gathering reference images, I put them into categories based on the type of animal they are.  I came up with four groupings: African Safari and Zoo  Animals, Woodland and Forest Animals, Farm and Ranch Animals, and Reptile and Desert Animals. The different animals were fun to draw.  I especially like how the outlines are simple and leave …

Friends: Graduation Kids Clipart

Among other projects I’ve been working on, I kinda wanted to do a set of clipart of the Friends wearing caps and gowns.  Its been about a month and a half since I first sketched out what they would look like, but I was so busy working on other products that it kind of got left behind.  Oh yeah, and of course, Julie and I went to Key West for a week for a much-needed vacation! The graduation kids were fun to draw.  However, coloring became a challenge – …

Friends Playing Music – Boy and Girl Clipart

Well, I have to say, this was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.  It sounded much simpler when I started – I would create a “Friends” set of them playing musical instruments.   I began by collecting reference images of different instruments: guitars, pianos, a violin, and some brass and woodwind instruments.  Then I sketched out how they could look and which character would be playing which instrument.  I had never really drawn musical instruments before so I thought it might be a challenge, but a …

Dancing Friends Clipart

More snow … Means more time to draw! With some great feedback on my first two sets of Friends clipart, I’ve created a new set that shows a little more movement – and what better subject to show movement than dancing. To make it fun, I’ve given the boys and girls I’ve created “personalities” which allows me to quickly choose different styles and poses for each character.  In thinking about dance, I wanted to capture both ballet and jazz, along with some normal dressed kids just dancing, maybe …

Friends with Books – Boy and Girl Clipart

Well, there’s something good about getting to stay at home a couple of extra days because of a blizzard – more time to draw clipart! I spent a lot of the time (when I wasn’t out shoveling) finishing my latest series of “Friends.”  I had this idea of figures in various poses with books and found some fun reference images of kids standing on books, sitting on stacks of books, standing next to a stack of books, and even one of a kid with a book on his …

Friends – new set of boy and girl clipart

I finally finished my latest set of clipart.  Thanks to Amy (at Learning Lessons With Mrs. Labrasciano) who gave me the idea of creating more realistic looking characters, I started drawing a couple of body forms a few weeks ago and got some great feedback from Amy which set me on the path for this first set.  My main goal was to make figures that could pass for either elementary school, middle school or high school teaching resources.  I’ve seen lots of clipart that is only for the …

Valentine’s Day is coming!

Now that the new year is here, it’s time to start getting ready for the next holiday.  Actually, I think I saw the first chocolate hearts and other Valentine goodies in the stores the day after Christmas! Since I decided my next product was going to be Valentines clipart, I wanted to be sure I was done in plenty of time so that if someone wanted to use some of the clipart in any of the things they may be preparing for February 14th (or the 13th this …
